Please view with black background. Up close and in detail, photos often tell stories that might otherwise be lost. Spring has finally arrived in Minnesota, and ice on the lakes is beginning to succumb to warming days. This image was captured in the small lake behind our house. Thanks for viewing and for your comments. Larry

This fascinating creature of wooden fin, emerging from the ice to bask in the warmth of the spring sunshine, and float lazily on the pond. An island stopover for winged insects and a resting place for small amphibians. Not sure about the diagonal out of focus foreground vegetation, perhaps a bit distracting? But great shape and textures and an absolute gem for lively imaginations!

Alf, Thanks for your comment and visit. You might consider being a writer in addition to a photographer. You have quite a vivid accounting on how my little island fin accommodates the denizens of the pond. The diagonal branchlike object is a bit distracting. It is likely due to my using such a long lens. I am still learning this lens. I might try cloning it out with the content aware tool. Thanks for your visit Alf. Larry
