On top of Darling Bridge

By Hardwicke
On visiting the iconic Opera house in Sydney, i wanted to have a different take on the feature. My original shot was fairly typical although had several distractions at the bottom. Cropping it slightly, I then took out much of the detail of the building to leave the basic shape. It is this shape that makes the Opera House distinctive and it is this that I wanted to bring out. There is potential to add more detail in the sky, but this would distract from the whiteness of the building (which us really a creamish colur in reality!).

Youve certainly succeeded in making this iconic building barely recognizable. Imo it doesnt work on any level. If the colour is supposed to be a creamy colour, not white, why is it white? There is a rainbow of colours on the right. Youve taken away too much of the detail, especially the top of the curves. Ive downloaded this thinking perhaps a mono might work, but it doesnt for me.

I understand, I think, what you were after, but theres too much missing for me.

I'll leave it to others to offer opinions, - I may be the odd man out here, - its happened before!

I understand your reasoning behind this image, Sam, and admire you for trying to present the Opera House in a less conventional fashion.
However, I feel this might work better with a bit more detail in the roofs, and wonder if your original gives you the ability to do this. The attractive fan-shaped pattern on the right is a nice feature, and I wonder if there is more of it in the original.
If you simply want to "leave the basic shape", then you need fewer distractions, and an almost abstract style presentation.
For me, the inclusion of the structure on the left, and the people at the bottom, distract from such an intention.
In my modification, I cropped, added canvas to the top, cloned out the people and the structure on the left, then turned the image to black and white and adjusted contrast. I am hoping it gives you the idea of an abstract style that the viewer can still distinguish as the Opera House.
Willie is not the odd one out.

You are trying something different. Full marks for that!

However, not a success I fear. Just too contrasty and too much gone for me.
