The river Wear at Durham Racecourse.
Despite four years at Durham University and frequent and regular visits to the city ever since I had only once walked upstream of the city on. this side of the river, and never this far. As we walked and chatted I couldn’t help noticing the two chaps on the other side astride their mowers and became convinced that they were about to line up for a race, hence my title. As I was changing lenses the eight hove into view and completed the composition.
I can not explain the large black frame - it had gone when we went back to check a month later - but there are lots of goal posts and cricket sight-screens dotted about the sports field where there is more work under way so it could be games-related - perhaps something to do with marking out the cricket pitch. In any case, it was there at the time.
Thanks for all votes and comments in the last few days, also to Philip for his UA and Ian Gilmour for the GEA: all are greatly appreciated and valued.
Thanks for looking.
