One Of The Gang

By Jmag60
A single juvenile starling isolated from it's gang waiting to mob our bird feeding station.
I have been trying out an 800mm lens, basically trying to get closer to what I'm shooting as sometimes I cannot physically get close due to my circumstances.
In these photos I'm using a Manual Focus, Fixed f8 Mirror lens that has it's own limitations, “doughnuts” for out of focus highlights and narrow field of focus etc.

The main photo and the versions are all un-cropped.

V1. Young sparrow in the rain taken at 35ft
V2. Male sparrow taken at 50ft
V3. Jackdaw taken at 35ft
V4. Pigeon taken at 35ft
V5. Tulip taken at 11ft
V6. Blue tits on feeder at 35ft
V7. Starlings, young and old taken at 28ft

Thanks to all that have taken the time to view, vote, comment and given UA's on my previous uploads. All very much appreciated.

Stay safe and well
John

A super set, John. I used to have a 500 mm mirror lens, but never got the degree of sharpness that you have shown in your images. I liked all your images, especially the lead and V7. In V3, the bird looked quite menacing with his beady eye.

Juvenile starlings are so watchable - and noisy. Smile
Gosh, haven't heard of a mirror lens in many a year. Must be a bit of a monster.
That’s a lovely set John.
