Only Nature Can!!!

By SteveMoulding
Only nature can devise a colour scheme like that of the colourful Mandrill.
Endangered monkeys from Africa, Mandrills are one of the largest species of monkey in the world. Their furry head crests, manes, and beards are quite impressive, but what will really get your attention is their bright colouration. They have thick nose ridges that are purple and blue, their nose tips and lips are red, and their beards are golden.
The adult male Mandrills that have the brightest and most distinctive reds, blues, lavenders, and golds on their faces and fur, are thought to be most attractive to females.
Adult females have duller colours and longer muzzles. They are also much smaller, about half the size of the adult males.
Here we see a large male with one of his females, notice the size difference.

Grateful thanks for all the C&C's on my last upload of the Cougar and especially to 'Poochie' for his 'Guest Editors Award'. The first time I have received such an award, so I feel over the moon. I am slowly on the mend and hopefully will get out soon. Thanks for all your kind wishes.
Take care and have a good week.
Steve.

Great shot, I love the presentation, and the write up is fascinating (I love Mandrill) - however, what a shame that the one in front is slightly blurred, if it had been as crisp as the one behind, I think this would have been one of my favourite shots of all time! It's a fantastic pose between them both as it is, and incredible colour caught. Exposure and detail - especially on the back one are fantastic! Smile

Well done, I love it.

Lovely image and great expression on the face of the male. As has been said it's a shame the female is out of focus.

Great shot of these extraordinary looking primates, Steve. I am not so concerned about the female being slightly out of focus, because I feel your eye travels immediately to the bigger male anyway and he is nice and sharp. Nice bit of work. Your accompanying narrative is both interesting and informative, so thank you for that too.
Ronnie.

What a lovely image and such a very interesting write up to go with it - I didn't even know that the Mandrill was the largest monkey in the world, so thanks for the education! Such exotic looking creatures, almost too bizarre to be real. Well caught.
