Open Skies and Choppy Waters

By NDODS
Over the years I have seen many great images of Dungeness, which have been wonderfully composed and crafted. Many of those wonderful images have stopped me from uploading my somewhat meagre attempt at trying to the ruggedness and raw beauty that is Dungeness in fear that I may not hit the mark. However after readdressing what I believe was just a lack of confidence and insecurity I have decided to grab the proverbial Bull by the horns and over the course of a week or so I shall upload what I now consider to be images worthy of uploading. Please free to analyse, criticise, demolish and tear apart at your leisure.

Thank you for all your comments and most welcomed messages following yesterdays upload.

I hope that you all have a great day ahead, for me it is a trip to the Vet in order that Kizmet receives his first set of inoculations and get his micro chip inserted.

Regards as always Nathan GrinGrinGrin

"I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying"

good effort.....or perhaps even brilliant...only you will know SmileSmile

I would say there's room for some brightening (clarity) around the boat, but really like the addition (real or otherwise Smile) of the birds into that sky

always wondered whether we humans should be micro-chipped too????!!!! - wouldn't that save a lot of time at the hospital, doctor, Tesco!!! WinkGrinGrin

Nice use of portrait, to give equal importance to the gulls.
I've only been there in summer, January must be quite something - even more bleak and isolated.
Looking forward to more. The thing about the place is that everyone has their own Dungeness, everyone sees it differently.

I have only experienced Dungeness in fine weather, Nathan, yet I can so easily imagine it beneath a heavy, threatening sky: this is precisely how it would look, if I could be persuaded to approach the water's edge.
I look forward to more!

Love this Nathan. The sky befits the subject perfectly, and the birds just add an element of life to the otherwise gloomy and stormy scenario! Well done with this.

You need not fret Nathan, this is easily up there with the best Dungeness images I've seen. Great atmosphere and the birds add something extra. It looks a little underexposed, which would easily be fixed in post, I just bring your white point up a little and I think it would make it even punchier without losing that brooding atmosphere. Great shot either way though

I know I said your pier photo was dull, but! this is not, it is Dungeness in moody format mode and what one would expect, as said the flock of gulls nicely placed, I like both in fact, as you know Nathan seascapes the light changes very frequently so you have done a good job on both, regards Leon.GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin
