Oranges, No Lemons

By chase
I love this set of old scales, think they cost me a couple of quid from a car boot sale some time ago, I shall be keeping them when I move house.

A 3 frame HDR image taken in daylight, combined in Lightroom, finished with a bit of faffing in Photoshop.

Thanks for getting here.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

Wonderful colour contrast and weighing scales with pounds and ounces is invaluable.
I keep having to do conversions!

The set of scales brings back memories. We had an identical set when I was a child. A beautiful still life.

Love the composition Janet, and I love those scales......if it's not in pounds and ounces, well then there's no chance!!!!

Trying to get the weight right on two ounces. One more segment has to go. Beautiful still life. You do these so well.

Wonderful still life. Exquisite composition.
The exhibits all seem to be period perfect..the colour palette is nice and balanced too and the background really makes the subject stand out.

Skilfully arranged Jan and the subdued colour palette works a treat. Who needs lemons anyway.

Lemons are very overrated, anyway, so not a minus in the least for leaving them at home, so to speak, Mighty J.
Dare I say this is a very balanced image?Wink

I have some small scales like this! Not quite as old, though... 😁 Excellent setup and capture, Janet 👍

Janet - you always get a fine 'patina' to your images (if thats the right word). Normally any HDR process for me seems to take the image to 'artificial' or 'clinical' which this definitely isn't (its lovely). Is this down to your soft natural light or 'faffing' in PS or lots of other tricks? Thanks Andy

Hi Andy, I don't think I do anything particularly special. I combine frames in Lightroom using the Raw files, which I think is possibly one of the gentlest HDR programs.
Perhaps the all important diffused daylight is a factor too.
No trickery, I do use layers and masks...always.

Thanks everyone.
