Ordination.

By Carlkuntze
Sukhothai, Thailand.

There was a time every Thai male had to serve as a Buddhist monk, anywhere for three months to a year, walking the length of the country to learn humility. Otherwise, he couldn't get a suitable marriage, or get a decent job.
Today, it is no longer required, but many still travel barefoot with a begging bowl. Those who observe the ritual are treated mostly with deference and respect.
