By malum
One of five days a month in July, August and September that there's a mass arrival of Olive Ridley turtles on Ostional beach, Costa Rica. Up to 3000 come to the beach each night to lay eggs.

Beautiful, Nick love the composition but I wonder how many hatch and make it back to the water.

Sorry that's one in every thousand that make it to adulthood. I don't know how many make it to the ocean as hatchlings.

Yes,I've seen films where the locals dig the eggs up and the hatchlings seem to know and wait for a full moon and high tide (that's if it's tidal) giving the waiting seabirds and crabs plenty of light to pick them off, as they struggle down the beach.Sad
