Ouch...

By AndrewCee
Another shot from the ice hockey.

Having a punch-up is all part of the fun, and I've a couple of shots from this bout which I quite like. Again shot with a fast shutter and wide open longish lens so as to blur the background, this shot benefits (I think) from being able to see the home team in the back albeit out of focus, the agressors face, and the helmit bouncing on the ice. The expression on the face is priceless, dare I say?

Fantastic Shot. I agree with everything you say about the expressions, out of focus team in background etc.. Sports shots do not get the recognition that they deserve like nudes/glamour and wildlife, which is a shame. This reall is a cracking shot.

Thanks Roger, have quite a few taken at the hockey as I take my D4 and 70-200 to all but one or two games. At first I found focussing a real challenge but since swapping to using the AF button I hit every time more or less. I generally use single spot or dynamic 9 spot of late has worked very well. Exposure is matrix & white balance as I describe above. Have to look out another...

Should also say we are real lucky as we have superb lighting as one can see with the high shutter and relatively modest ISO setting. Make things much easier!
