Ouch!

By Mike_Young
Thanks to all for the interest in my last upload of a Chaffinch, much appreciated as always. Smile

Today a tiny butterfly from my collection, this is a female Duke of Burgundy butterfly, Hamearis lucina. Sometimes erroneously referred to as a Fritillary, it is in a genus of its own in the UK. Sadly in decline and getting rarer.

This one is ready to lay eggs after recently mating, she landed on this bent stick after quite a while of flitting here and there. It made me smile because it looks as though she's bumped into it !

Hope you enjoy

A fabulous close up of this pretty little and extremely rare butterfly. I'm very fortunate in having a colony of these only a couple of miles from where I live
