I've wanted to try to frame just the Milky Way core for sometime, but to do so requires a sufficient latitude and conditions. This image was taken in South Africa's Addo National Park. It is a stacked image of 17 10sec exposures @ f2.4 and an ISO 12800 (stacked to cancel signal noise). Whilst I am chuffed with the outcome, it plays a poor second to actually looking up and seeing this extend across the nights sky - the location was the first I have visited where the nebula cloud of the Milky Way was visible to the naked eye. As I took the images used in the stack I heard several roars from a pride of lions a few miles down the road, and the eerie cat like shrieking of a group of Jackals - a magical memory.
