OUT OF AFRICA

By Gezina
Thank you for C'c on the GSW - always appreciated.
Right totally out of my comfort zone today but a shot I would like to share and also give those of you with the know how the chance to improve. From a comp point of view there was 3 things I liked about the shot - the light grass in the foreground then the two zebra's standing next to each other and lastly the tree on the left hand side. I've tried to enhance the sky to make it more "moody" but it became grainy - so please have a go with a mod & tell me how to improve - Ina

Well done Ina - this works really well for me. Lovely tones and detail and very atmospheric. The letterbox crop is great and the title is so very fitting too - love it.

I like this - it has a delicate and fragile feel which also mirrors the situation of much of our wildlife.

Did a Mod but my skills trying to seperate the trees are crap Ina, sorry but hope you like the sky.
Basically your original is first class with so much to guide the eye in with the grasses in the fg and the Zebras all the way to the trees on the horizon.
Like the title and searched for Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, but they must have been behind the bushes.....lol
Terrific capture

Thank you Richard and Colin for taking the time to upload a mod, I appreciate it - Richard I like the tones you've managed in the clouds but the trees seems unrealisticly dark in comparrison - especially the one on the left - wich a think adds to the comp of the shot. Colin the noiseware worked well but for me one of the strong points in the comp was the detail in the foreground grass, wich seems lost in your mod. Hope you're not upset guys, I really do appreciate the time and effort, maybe I'm just full of nonsense - Ina

I added a mod for you, a great image to start with. I used graduated tint in Picasa to darken the sky a bit and noise ninja to remove most of the noise.

A lovely shot Ina but I am afraid I will have to leave it to more competant others to mod. This is way too far out of my box.

A great comp and a shot - I must admit I didnt think a scene like this would work in mono but I take my hat off to you - excellent work.
I had a little play but you had changed the sky a left some light areas - a little blurring of the sky, a slight change of contrast and brightness on the sky. A bit of dodging and burning to enhance some of the detail and a slight shift of the donkeys in pyjamas. Sorry its a bit of a quick mod but it needs some thought and manipulation. Great work Ina

I love the comp in the shot and like Ray didn't think the b&w will work but surprised by the result - nice one and some fine mods to think about in future - Graham
