Over here, over there

By saltireblue
Two highly polished steel spheres in my local town, Drammen.
These are approx 150 metres apart on opposite banks of the river. In the one I was stood next to, you can see the brown stone of the path, the snow/ice on the water's edge and a distant bridge behind me.
If you possessed Superman's Super Sight, you would be able to see me reflected in the other sphere on the opposite bank.Wink
Taken on a very sunny afternoon when the height and direction of the sun gave a marvellous reflection in the farthest sphere.
To give an idea of their size, I am stood upright next to the nearest sphere, and the curvature shows that at head-height (in my case 6' 3" ish), I reached about halfway up.

Many thanks for the recent interest and comments...much appreciated by this own fogey.Smile

Thanks for bothering.

Malc

Very tasty, glorious colour plus mystery.
I'm not sure about the proportions, the amount of oof on the left and the central placement of the divide between sharp and blur. Will try a quick Mod, seeing as how you have kindly enabled them.

I'm glad you included dimensions, distances, wind speed and direction etc etc. as I would have been totally lost without.
Well, not totally, as I can recognise a townscape with water and reflective balls. The light is fabulous, the sky very northern, the juxtaposition (well, in certain circumstances 150m can seem quite close) almost surreal. The differentiated focus might well not appeal to all; I love it!

Well said that man (Bill), I concur (whatever he meant WinkGrinGrin. The clarity and light against the diffused background is excellent.

Moira. Interesting mods. I had designs on a b&w conversion for another occasion...Wink You have given me more to work with.

As for your colour mod, I agree about the proportions, but... I played around with various crops, and found myself torn between better proportion and losing the view provided by the oof reflection which shows the "unseen". I felt the oof view was important to the image.

Great to see how other eyes observe, thank you.Smile

Excellent focus and narrow dof. I see lots of these steel balls in London but I've never seen such an excellent capture. It really does look other-worldly.

Reminds me of a TV series from way back. That far away sphere is beautifully offset by the portion of the near one. I prefer your crop to the mods.

I love this composition Malc; very fresh and original. Beautifully seen and taken.
And I'm happy to tell you that McDonald's hasn't opened a franchise in our village yet; well seen! Smile
