Overcoming Borders

By DicksPics
Today's images were taken in May 2018 when we visited Berlin.

I thought it an appropriate upload as it is 30 years today since the Berlin Wall came down.

The lead image, V1 and V2 show a Memorial to the Victims of the Berlin Wall. I have tried hard to find out details of this thought provoking work of art; I have only managed to find one image of it 'on line' but no information about its creator or anything else.

It is situated in Ebertstrasse, not far from the Holocaust Memorial ..... if anyone has any information, I would be very grateful. I'm not sure if it is still there. Google Earth suggests it may no be longer in situ ..... I don't know.

V3 gives some info. about its location.

Versions 4 to 11 are images which tell a little of story of the infamous 'Wall' and what the subjects in the sculpture were wanting to 'overcome' ........... I hope you find them to be of some interest.

V10 shows images taken after the demise of the Wall; the right hand one showing granite blocks being laid to denote the location of where the wall once stood.

The last three versions are images of some of what remains of this dreadful barrier.

Many thanks for all votes, comments and awards(PMs sent) for my 'Watching' upload - very much appreciated, as always.

I hope your weekend is going well despite the deluge that today has brought.

A brilliant set of images brought to life by you Richard. It brought back many memories as I was stationed there as a young soldier 1966-68. Then it was a different world, a world cut off from all reality. Our orders were to form up and surrender to the Soviet forces if the balloon went up. Now we have peace across Europe and long may it last. Our eldest son is a Berliner.

A fascinating set.

I was talked through the first time people were let through the barriers in the wall by a friend who lived in Berlin. He phoned me and it was sooooooo exciting. When he came to the UK he brought me a piece of the wall. I t treasure it.

I remember seeing the wall some years ago and what a depressing sight it was. In fact I had a piece of the wall somewhere?
A great set of images.

A beautiful sculpture well photographed Richard. The other images are fascinating. The wall was a very strange attempt at creating an artificial barrier. The world was a strange place then but I often wonder if it is any better now.
