I learned something about Kookaburras on my trip to Tangalooma. They are not just cute and comical - they are quite fierce predators. A Kookaburra will take a small snake, and before eating it will knock it out by banging its head against a hard surface. This one obligingly demonstrated that behaviour with a strip of meat fed to it by one of the staff. The action was unnecessary, of course - the meat was already dead - but the bird was making sure.
