Overlooking Windermere ...

By sut68
After a lovely but chilly morning on Gummers How we set off back to the car. Just before we got there, I decided to sneak in a pano of the area.

The mount to the right is Gummers how and the lake to the left is Windermere. The shot is a 36 shot pano. It was so difficult to expose correctly for in a single frame, that each frame is an HDR from three exposures, then stitched together in PTGui. In truth though, it is only a 12 shot stitch in width terms, but 36 shots went into its make-up.

I was thinking of possibly cropping a little tighter from the left, but the partial formation of that strange little rainbow above the water just felt right where it was. Strange in that it wasn't raining, so there must've been some moisture or ice in the air to create it.

Anyway, enjoy your day and many thanks for getting past the traditionally weak thumbnail Smile

This is a fantastic bit of work, well worth the effort of pulling it together.

I was up on top for sunrise on saturday morning Paul and had a fab view over most of the Lakes, commend you for the effort going into this shot and the result is excellent (wee stitching blemish in lhs sky???). I don't think it would have been my choice of panorama though, considering the view from the top but each to their own style and the inclusion of the wall and road as a lead-in is a good offset to the open expanse of field.
I like it.Smile

You were on top of where John? We were up on Gummers How and never saw another soul. That 'blemish' you're refrerring to is a strange bit of light refraction - like a rainbow, can't figure out why it was there as there was no rain. I did post a pano yesterday from the top John, but I didn't bother with many shots in the Newby Bridge/Barrow direction though as the sky was featureless.

Thanks too Ange,
Paul

Ambitious, but very well executed. Each time you put these up, I feel more and more tempted to get that ptgui software. Must resist...

LOL! Wink I parked in that little layby seen there on the left. I didn't even know that Windermere could be seen from the road, but when I arrived it was pitch black. Does't look that far from the road to the top does it. A stunner large...I looked Smile

The rainbow is a cloud bow. It's formed by light diffraction in the water droplets in the cloud as opposed to rain Smile
Great pano. Wouldn't even know where to start putting something like this together.

Luvverly bit of needlework Paul.If you had cropped from the left you would have missed the shape of the lake in the frame & also the last little bit where the ground level rises...which,for me adds to the composition.

Lots of reasons to keep this crop Janet, but I did try a couple of others and they worked pretty well too ... but they just put the Cloud Bow Wink in the wrong place.

No Darren, just more insane Wink

Thanks folks, enjoy your evenings.
