Oxbow Bend Fall -- Grand Teton National Park

By stephenoachs
This is Oxbow Bend, a highly photographed location on the Snake River at the north end of Grand Teton National Park.

I spent 4 days driving all over this park, one end to the other, and back again and only one day did I get good clouds, thus all the wildlife shots you see in my photostream. But, the one morning there were clouds I was pleased. If there had been a bit more snow on the mountains that would have really made this shot even better, but, it is what it is.

So speaking of overphotographed...I arrived before sunrise to pick my spot and there must have been 100 photographers there. It was insanity. Most though were up on the road so they was no way there were going to get a good reflection from that angle so I made my way down to the water and setup.

How I took this shot: I used a Canon 1Ds Mark III with a Canon 50mm fixed at f/22. This image is six 4 second exposures. I achieved 8 seconds by also using a B+W ND64 filter. I choose to do this because there was a slight ripple in the water and by using a longer exposure I was able to smooth the water out and improve the reflection. Then, I tossed the images into PhotoShop, sticked them together and Voila!

Have to wonder if 100 photographers were cursing you as you encroached into their foreground lol.
Love this. You make it sound easy but many decisions were made to ensure this great result.
