1200mm 640/sec and pin sharp.
Maybe shutter speed evidence in the foot movement?
Favourite V6. Eye contact, both eyes again pin sharp. Despite by the look of it when you try to zoom in on the image it appears it was also a heavy crop.
This combination makes this for me a Superb set and without the sun.
As usual many great versions of the same subject. Obviously another worthwhile outing.

Curiosity makes me ask. Why ISO 1600 when the 1DXiii must be superb at 4000 still or at least 3200 which would remove any trace of movement.

Personal preference on ISO, have always shot with 1D series and normally try to push the iso on a new body to find what I am happy with in low light without any additional or fancy noise processing, that way in both good and poor light the images are ok, if the lighting gets too poor for BIF or the AF canít handle the 2x tc, then I change to either the 1.4 tc or bare lens

The 1D3 will do way more iso in good light or with additional processing

During lockdown with hides being shut, I have started using a monopod and really like doing so and can get reasonably stable low shutter speed shots with it although the hit rate can suffer over a tripod

I shoot in manual mode using auto iso, I set the iso limit to 1600 and have this set up on three custom settings, for birds on stick, in flight with background, and in flight with blue sky

I shoot predominantly on BIF setting with background, but the on stick setting is with silent shutter and single af point, but I have to be ready to shoot BIF at the touch of the mn button in other words almost instantly

Thanks Neil for the explanation.
Iím obviously not using the 1Dii to itís full potential as never used presets.
That will now change thanks to you.👍🏻
I think Iíve been set in my ways and admittedly used processing to improve some of my images.
End results mostly satisfy me. But every days a school day.
Even at 60😂 never too old to learn.
As Iíve said many times. ďEvery failure is an opportunity for improvement ď
Believe me Iíve had so many opportunities.
Thanks again.
