Papallacta lake painted by the colors of the sky

By macxymum
This is taken at 6:29 AM... after 1h waiting in the cold. Got frozen but happy. I'm here indeed at 3180 m and I was lucky because this lake is located in the cloud forest area, so usually covered by fog and/or rain. But of course the blue sky made the temperature drop drastically.

The Papallacta lagoon is a water mirror located in the eastern foothills of the Andes Mountain Range of Ecuador. It is located at 3,180 m.a.s.l. in the buffer zone of the Cayambe Coca Ecological Reserve and the Antisana Ecological Reserve..The lagoon of Papallacta was formed by a damming of the Papallacta River, caused by the eruption of the Antisana volcano in 1726..Its waters come from the melting of the snow-capped Cayambe, Sarahurco and Antisana volcanoes, and from many creeks of the surrounding moors. It is currently used to supply drinking water to the northern districts of Quito. Around the lagoon of Papallacta there are traditions, legends and beliefs. The villagers say that in the past the lagoon was implacable, and did not allow passage along its shores during the night. One of the mythical characters who guarded her was the "Enchanted Father", whose figure is said to be depicted in a stone located on its shore.
