Paranoid

By tony64
At last! An opportunity to get a Black Sabbath song title in!

I'm sure these people standing in city centres are now quite commonplace. But, I'm still baffled by them. Why Golf and not other sports? (Hocky, ice skating, American Football, Polo all need lots of kit) Am I missing something? I sometimes wonder whether 'Golf Sale' is actually not people selling glof clubs but a code for something more exciting, secret or even sinister instead. Maybe its code for an S&M party or something! I don't know.
But I can't understand why there should be so many sales of Golf equipment. I mean its not THAT popular... is it?

Anyway, it remains that for many years we see lonely men standing all day on street corners like statues holding these hideous boards. I felt a little sorry for this chap standing in the city, looking very cold and sorry for himself.

I can't imagine all these suited city types rushing off to buy armfuls of clubs, in fact I never see ANYONE walking around with purchases from said places either.
Am I going mad?

Colour version also included.

Thanks for taking the time to look, and the sympathy.

Tony

I think they are now banned in Oxford St, London. I suspect some of these so called `golf shops' are fronts for other lucrative retail!!!!

Nice spot

Yep, I've seen plenty of these advertising golf sales, but hadn't quite thought through the world-wide conspiracy implications. Best laugh I've had on a grim, grey morning... Smile

Perhaps it's too cold to play golf at the moment (it certainly looks freezing in Fenchurch Street) ...... or the golf equipment falls off the backs of unmarked lorries at dead of night only to be collected by similar ....Perhaps the fashions in irons & woods change regularly ... which might of course be related to your speculation.....

Prefer the mono - it looks altogether colder and lonelier.

Perhaps he is drawing dole money also, excellent observation Tony. Black Sabbath were one of rocks greats, seen Ozzie perform. Ron.

Yes,we have a guy in Princess Street with the same sign. And I have never seen the golf shop ????? Regarding your question---It is the salt water that ''softens'' the stone.Hence the weight of the metal ''sinks'' into the stone. It takes many number of years however.
And regarding Black Sabbath.Saw them live back in the 70s.Even today my ears are still ringing !! This was before they were ''superstars''.It was the original line up with Ozzy,Tonni Iommi,Bill Ward and Geezer Butler. We ''gatecrashed'' the after concert party at their hotel. As you might imagine it turned into a rather wild night !!!

Very nice indeed. Not sure how I missed this the first time around. You might be onto something there with the thoughts of something more sinister. I shall have to investigate just in case it is an S&M thing.

But on a more sensible note, the way you have taken this shot makes it look very surreal indeed, the faceless person in a high visibility jacket, standing with a board around suited people going about their business.

Well spotted indeed.
