Passion Trinity

By pamelajean
Thankyou, Lillian, for your User Award on my Poppy Crown.

I left my Passion Flower at my last home when I moved, but have since bought 2 more, one of which is a blue variety, so I can't wait to see that one bloom.
I wanted to show 3 different aspects in one shot of the unique flower structure of this fruiting vine, together with a tendril and some foliage.
It is sometimes called Christís Thorn, Christís Crown, Christís Bouquet, Crown of Thorns, Jesusí Passion and Mother of Godís Star. The names derive from its structure being symbolically related to the Passion of Christ and the crucifixion:-
Pointed leaves = Holy lance
Tendrils = Whips used in the flagellation of Christ
10 petals and sepals = The 10 faithful apostles
Radial filaments = The crown of thorns
Chalice-shaped ovary = The Holy Grail
3 stigmata, 5 anthers = His wounds
Blue and white colours = Heaven and Purity

My sincere thanks to Chris, Michaela, Ed, Adrian and Andrew.

This is a brilliant image - testified by the amount of awards. The diferent angles of the blooms, the leaves with their shiny surface - the tendril... just perfect. And not to forget the extremely good photography skills. This is artwork.
