Peace Gardens and Town Hall With a Brief History

By Fefe
Morning Everyone! Thankyou for all recent C&CGrin I am Pleased as punch this morning, I have been awarded with a blue badgeGrinGrinGrinGrin, Thankyou!
I have been uploading the series "Town Hall and Peace Gardens for a good two weeks now I think, and way overdue is a brief history of this tremendous building.......
This is Sheffield Town Hall and it was built ( completed) and opened in 1897, taking over from another rather attractive (well it must have been at one time) building a short distance away.
On the site of the Peace gardens, to the left of this image there used to be a large church called St Paul's and this was demolished in the 1930's to make way for the Peace Garden's. The Peace Gardens have changed considerabley over the years and also the area next to them. In 1975 a new section of the town hall was built, a hideous modern monstrosity, that was nicknamed "The Egg Box". This section didn't stand the test of time and was demolished also some years ago, and replaced with a large hotel called St Pauls.
At the same time the Peace Gardens were completely revamped with the addition of the fountains, and the "Winter Gardens" to the side of the hotel. The whole project took several years to complete as I remember. Looking at the area now, I think it works well, and it is a very pleasant part of Sheffield.
Thank you for looking, still few more to go yetWink

Looks great in mono Diane, but no true blacks and whites, lots of grey tones! It is not far off being sepia toned, congratulations on the blue badge, but not sure what that is explanation please.

If it's the Blue Badge I know it will open up more opportunities for your photography Diane. Good conversion on this one, clarity and great side-lighting. And good bit of local history too.

In todays image I have added just a tiny hint of red and blue after turning it to B&W (only teeny weeny bit mind) hence the slight tingeWink

Love the clarity of the shot, and the history is remarkable. Smile Just out of interest, are the verticals vertical, or do I need my eyes testing ?

A nice hint of the atmosphere of my favourite part of Sheffield, a city that we've only started exploring in the last year or so.

Good light, good lines and if you can just straighten hem up a bit it will be a cracker.
