Peasant Woman

By gingerdelight
One of the "peasants" at our Medieval Fayre at St Giles Church, Durham on Saturday. She actually plucked this chicken completely, spun wool (on the spinning wheel behind her) and made bread! She had with her a white donkey, and some sheep (whose wool she used for spinning). She seemed to drift off into a dream whilst she was doing this plucking!

Seems to be a handy girl to have about the house Carol,
with all these skills she has.
Would like to know what she is dreaming about doing the plucking though !!
Good shot.

remember doing that with my dad when I was young.
o.k. a long time ago in Australia
The intriguing thing was the inside bits and all the yolks of differnt sizes waiting to be laid ...
thanks for bringing back past memories

Straight out of the 18th century, except the fine steamed creases in the tablecloth and the toy....Crop/clone away these, tweak the hot whites a little, maybe add a little texture, repost......Bang on!Tongue

Whatever floats your boat I suppose, but you have caught her trancelike state beautifully here. The suggestions for slit changes are good, but they don't take away from your initial observation and capture.

Most interesting observation of the dream like trance doing a job
most people wouldn't relish these days!
I do like the textured tablecloth though.
Very nostalgic feel to this one Carol.

Can't help feeling it would be a better picture with her eyes open but nevertheless it is a fine capture and I prefer No. 2.

Two extremely fine photographs, which deserve many an accolade being bestowed upon them. "Pity about those closed eyes, but hey ho, that's photography for you?".

After plucking the singeing with rolled up news paper was usually cause for a few burns ,hope she survived .Following on from Barbara's comment all the egg yolks went to make egg custard pie then the gibblets ,neck and various bits went to make the best broth ever ,barley, onion, carrot and turnip, day or two later dump what is left of the carcass, stuffing and veggies into what is left of the stew boil it up again remove the bones, bang on a shortcrust lid about 1 inch thick and bake ,three /four days food for the family from a chicken .
