Peel Castle

By TrevBatWCC
Continuing along East Quay Road past the harbour and crossing Fenella Bridge to West Quay Road, headed towards Peel's castle. Originally constructed by Vikings in the 11th century, Peel Castle stands on and occupies most of St Patrick's Isle. It's connected to the town by a causeway, which forms part of the West Quay Road, from where these two images were captured. The road continues round to the right of the castle, past Peel's RNLI Lifeboat Station, and on to the Breakwater Pier (which can be seen in the background to the right of the castle in the lead image).
The Castle was closed at the time, re-opening on 1st April – or would have been had it not been for the Coronavirus… 🥺

Raw images processed in Nikon Capture NX-D, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Impressive Castle Trev - definitely a lot of historic buildings in IOM.
Wondering if I'll ever get there or anywhere ever again?
You did well to get so much of the castle in the frame!

Interesting... considering most British and Irish castles are 12th century...had always imagined the, Normans were the first builders...

Great shots 😁

Two great shots Trev. I think version 1 could almost be a postcard.

Two excellent images of this ancient building, Trev - to think that those stones were hewn, dressed and used as building blocks all those years ago is quite amazing!
