This kid has been left with his colouring book or homework while his mother works in the market where I took this shot. I thought it unusual to see a kid this age sitting in this position, which is more the way an adult would sit; with one leg resting on the other. I also liked the rather motley array of different textures (tiles, woven fabric, painted plywood) that form the background. In the second version I've included a playful brother and sister shot, also taken in the market. The relationship between the two of them is clear from the photo! She was definitely the protagonist and he the slightly irritated brother who wished it would soon be lunchtime. They loved being photographed and insisted I took quite a few. Note: (I had asked their mother first.)
