"Pestle Puffballs"

By RonnieAG
Daughter Pam 'phoned me at 12.30 yesterday to tell me she'd found large puffballs in Pollok Country Park and she gave me directions to the spot. Needless to say, one hour later I had a dozen or so images of them on the computer. Here is one such........the Pestle Puffball (Lycoperdon Excipuliforme).......and the tallest one was about 5 inches (12.5 cm.) high.

My thanks as ever for all the kind comments on Finn Doing His Work and with special thanks to Ruth {Ruthannette} for her User Award.

These are a very odd shape Ronnie and obviously Pam knows her mushrooms as well as you.
No wonder Finlay is rushing to do his work at the computer too.
Another one for that book!

I think you shouldn't resist to the idea of a book any more, Ronnie. You're the best at this subject.
Amazing fungus and it's taken so well, as always.

A note: I felt safe there, as only twice a day trains visit that station.

I didn't think these fungus could be so interesting Ronnie but your images make me look at their makeup a lot longer than I would normally.

they can grow to be very sizable I did see one on the cooking program river cottage it must have 18inched in diameter, a good find by Pam, Ronnie, and well exhibited here in excellent detail. The next door have ceps growing in their lawn so we feasted on them last night in garlic butter parsley and parma ham very tasty
