Peter Rabbit's Grand Day Out

By mrswoolybill
Spotted at Seaburn Historic Vehicle Display on Bank Holiday Monday - this was the mascot on a Studebaker (from about 1927, so contemporary with Beatrix Potter).
He was lovingly polished chrome, gleaming like a mirror and reflecting the blue sky. The light was really bouncing off him and I nearly didn't bother trying - I'm glad I did as I was delighted by how this turned out.
Incidentally, Ty Chee's upload yesterday featured sky reflections on a much larger shiny sculpture, this has something of the same effect in miniature.
Bill will upload another detail from the same vehicle later this morning.
Thanks to everyone for your kind wishes. I'm just glad I didn't fall sick a day earlier, I'd have missed this. (And there's a lot more to come from the day!)
Tomorrow, a shot of the Angel of the North. Taken in Sunderland.
Thanks for looking.
Moira

Well spotted Moira, did this remind you of someone, if I'm not mistaken that is a camera he's carrying,
Fred.

Wonderful capture with well controlled shiny surfaces. What a great idea to have that as a mascotte on your car; sure beats all the modern logos!

Have tried before to get details of shiny surfaces before, but not much success.Great job here Moira with the outcome. No major hotspots at all.
I thought I would be the only one to go to see a vehicle display and come away with a pic of a rabbit.Well done for pulling this one out of the hat.

Thanks everyone. Camera? Hookah? These are very adult tastes to attribute to a young rabbit...
And Mick - you don't honestly think that I went to a motor show to photograph cars, do you?

Great shot Moira. Lovely detail and reflections. You now have me intrigued, The Angel of the North affectionately known as Auld Rusty by a few people. Taken in Sunderland. Interesting.

Good shot Moira, nice reflections caught in the little Bunny. I think I can see people in the reflection, knew you would get some in somehow.

This came out really great. Shiny surfaces are really tricky and you got this one just right. Excellent reflections and DOF. Cars of today certainly lack the character of those of yesteryear. Glad your back and feeling better.

This is a superb capture Moira and not an easy shot to get, it's a trbute to your skills that there aren't any blown highlights at all in this shot! Great use of DoF with the background too, a real pleasure to look at and well-spotted!
kind regards,
Robin

wonderful name for a rabbit (no bias of course) =) and especially if he enjoys a hookah now and again (sounds ominous)

anyway, to the photograph - great capture, a really nice character portrait and cool being shiny and metal - far better to look at than that flying lady on the rolls royce =)

i love classic cars but not obsessively like my dear father - i just like photographing them when i get a chance - nice lines and curves and forever beautiful, like moira really Wink lol
