Blimey Dave. Yes I can. And having to queue to make a call.
But we were happy then. Weren't we ?

I think A was to be pressed when the call was connected and B for money back when no-one answered..
Once I encountered a telephone with a blank front replacing the dial. I gave up on it - I was probably only 5 or 6, after all - I suspect all calls went via an operator. But it was a long time ago . . .

Excellent b&w candid, Dave.

I do remember having to use the old phone boxes as there was no phone in my parents' house until 1978. I seem to remember they were often broken. But I couldn't work out if they were broken because they had been vandalised or if they were vandalised because they were not working.

Yes, I remember using them, those heavy doors! Last time I used a public phone I got ripped off on my bank card.

Nice candid , from his expression he's received bad news or is wondering whether to make a call at all. So a picture with several possible stories.

The number is not on his phone - so trying to remember the number that he wish to call. At least a public phone box did possess a local telephone directory for public use.

Well, they weren't red in Canada and often they were just stuck on a wall somewhere. If no one answered we got our money back when you hung up the phone, Lots of people walked off without it, so the first thing was always to check the coin return for loose change.

This guy looks quite lost; just got the instruction he asked for but can't quite figure them out.

I just found out there are gloves with texting fingers on them. What next.
