Photography is a scary business!

By HobbitDave
Another restored photo in iPads Photo Editor.
Love the expressions especially on the drivers face in this old 1905 photo of a family in their motorcar.
When you think how long it took to set up a plate camera on a tripod, and then being told to keep completely still until all was completed, it must have been rather an ordeal for some.
The youngster in the back has moved despite everything, and is a little blurred !
Photography over 100 years ago, the cameras were surprisingly good, both Zeiss and Voigtlander had been making brass lenses for some time, by 1905.

It is wonderful to see these old photos - with all the styles of the day in fashion and vehicles never mind the cameras of the day.

Quite understand your comment, Kate, but the cameras of the day were wonderful too - we don’t realise what wonderful lenses there were, Zeiss, Dallmeyer, Voigtlander, Ross, Taylor Hobson, Cooke, the shutters weren’t fast like todays digital cameras but in terms of the glass, the best lenses were certainly on a par with todays ‘electronic’ ones 🙂

The lady in the back is almost smiling, almost frowned upon in photography in those days! 😁 A fine presentation, Dave 👍

Great find Dave. Imagine having to sit still for so long. They must have been proud of their motor vehicle. Debs
