Piazzetta San Marco

By TrevBatWCC
For Lillian , who sadly couldnít make it to Venice Sad Taken on Friday, my last full day, this is looking down onto the Piazzetta San Marco from the outside balcony of the Basilica. When I told Lillian Iíd been inside the Basilica, she asked me to dedicate an image from there to her Ė so my first upload from Venice is especially for you, Lillian. It wasn't as sunny as this the whole holiday - the day before it snowed!
Whenever Iíve been to Venice before, thereís always been queues a mile long to get into the Basilica, and hating queuing, Iíve not been in before. However, I was passing at around 10:15 a.m. on Friday, and there was no queue, so just walked straight in! As busy as it was around that area, I think most visitors were there for the Carnival, and pre-occupied with photographing everyone in their costumes.

1/200 sec, F11, 18mm, ISO 100
Single Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Elements 6, with some assistance from Topaz Adjust.

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging.

Hope you had a great trip, Trev: and what a super shot to display first. Love the contre jour lighting here. I did not think the place would be so busy at it obviously is at this time of the year. But Venice being Venice, there is probably no off season.

Welcome back. Looks glorious Trev, love the pov here. We are going later in the week and the forecast is poor sadly. It'll just be good to have a break though.

How wonderful Trev, and what a great vista! did you notice all those statues on the building roof were 'naked men'Grin I loved the views from up on this roof, of all going on in the square. Thank you for this and I look forward to even more.

Welcome home Trev . What a lovely image to kick off what I am sure will be the first of some great images from Venice . What a shame that Lillian was unable to go at the last minute as she had so looked forward to going ....Phil
Hello Trev, glad you reached home safely. Great shot, was in the square myself at that time getting a few last minute shots with a blue sky, before catching the ferry. Lovely to meet you, enjoyed your company.

Wow Trev what a vantage point ! I just love all those little people and their shadows. If Lowery had been there , one of his paintings may have looked something like this. One of my all time favourites xxxx
