Many thanks for your much appreciated votes, comments and awards(PMs sent) for my
'Piers and Abutments' upload - the images having been taken at the end of September.
Today's 'sequel' images were taken at the end of November and show what remains of Dowles Bridge from the opposite side of the River Severn, about a mile north of Bewdley in Worcestershire
Dowles Bridge once carried the Tenbury & Bewdley Railway branch line across the Severn on its way to several towns and villages in Shropshire.
The lead, V1, V2 and V3 gradually zoom out from the bridge.
V4 was taken from the top of the sweeping, curved embankment which can be seen in V3 – it was a bit of a scramble to reach this point but worth the effort to get a view of the ‘cradles’ in which the 70ft wrought iron lattice girder deck spans were supported .
The collage in V5 shows the bridge at various times during its history from 1864 to its demolition in March 1966 when deck spans were removed.
A cottage can be seen framed by the bridge in two of the images on the left of the collage; it is still inhabited and can be seen through the trees in the final version.
I hope your weekend is going well.
Richard
