'Planet'

By TrevBatWCC
Another image from another trip to Manchester, this time the Museum of Science and Industry (I promise a different location on my next upload!) 😁
The 9th locomotive built for the L&MR, it was George Stephenson's next major design change after the Rocket. It was the first locomotive to employ inside cylinders, and subsequently, the 2-2-0 type became known as Planets. On 23 November 1830 No.9 Planet ran the approximately 50 km (30 m) from Liverpool to Manchester in one hour. It only lasted in service for about ten years; having been rebuilt in 1833, it was withdrawn circa 1840-1841.
This working replica was built in 1992 by the Friends of the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Manchester, and is operated by volunteers to provide rides for visitors. When not in steam the locomotive is on display in the museum's Power Hall.
I did upload the original colour image back in 2012, shortly after my visit to the MOSI, and thought it begged for a mono conversion.
(image taken 29/04/2012)

Many thanks to Robert (BobbyMS), Sylvia (Sylviwhalley), Richard (DicksPics), Leo, James (jacomes) and Colleen for their User Awards on my previous upload, Quay West , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw image processed in Adobe Camera Raw, mono conversion in Nik Collection's Silver Efex Pro 2 and tweaked in Photoshop Elements 2020.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😃👍

The B and W presentation works so well with this subject, and one so beautifully captured.
And what a full and interesting narrative with so much detail and info.

30mph is quite a respectable speed given the early technology...super transformation 😁😁

Super little steam loco Trev, and your excellent b&w conversion suits the subject really well And I like the detail of the two men with their backs to the engine reflected in the window.
