Three images of the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway taken whilst on holiday in North Devon last June.

"This historic Victorian railway opened in 1890 and has connected the twin towns of Lynton & Lynmouth ever since. The 862 feet of track rises 500 feet with an impressive gradient of 57% providing stunning views across Lynmouth Bay. The railway is a fully working listed heritage monument, and is the steepest fully water powered railway in the world. With no need for electrictity, gas or diesel the Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway remains the UK's only fully water powered railway and one of only three examples left in the world."

Many thanks to Pete(civitas), Moira(mrswoolybill), Ken(franken), Steve(Stephen_B), Patty(pentaxpatty), Jeff(kojack) and Nezih(nonur) for their Treasured user Awards for my 'Let There Be Heat' upload and for all much appreciated clicks and comments.SmileSmile

I hop you have a lovely weekend - the sun is shining beautifully here in the West Midlands ........... long may it last!!

Nice one! When we made stuff in those days we made them to last. Water powered too pleases the old Hippy in me Smile. I haven't been for many years but there used to be one in Wales at the Centre for Alternative Technology, a place where the Hippies went to grow old!GrinGrinGrin

I had no idea that this railway was water powered: and that is such a steep drop looking down.
You have documented the upper station in good detail and I love the bigger picture in the second version, Richard.

It's a great ride up and down on this, and it's worth every penny, it's a long, long way from top to bottom, especially if you're like me, not fit!! Smile
