Policeman watches crowd who had queued overnight for trainers

By philtaylorphoto
Early morning, Manchester Arndale, as retail lockdown ended.

Police attempt to enforce social distancing as a crowd had gathered overnight to buy limited edition trainers.

Poor souls, without recreational shopping their lives have been barren and meaningless...

Ah, but this is capitalism summed up. JD Sports had a limited number of special edition trainers that probably look like clown's shoes. You purchase them, then put them on eBay and sell them with a 200 profit overnight. If you hang onto them longer they may gain even more (unlike Deliveroo).

No different than those people who buy a good plated Leica covered in Unicorn skin so that they can watch it increase in value, but never use it. They will never see anybody exercise in them, they might even stay sealed in the box.

Of course, when greed rules, social distancing is ignored, and tempers flared.

You just wonder where the world will end up if a pair of trainers are worth risking your life for...

I love the idea of unicorn skin...

Someone wrote that it's not a proper Leica until it's slightly 'brassed' - I own a lot of 'proper' cameras. And no trainers at all.
An excellent piece of social history recording mass stupidity! Some people just don't comprehend that the virus is still with us.

Of course, Manchester has previous for this. Not the first time gangsta wannabes have queued for trainers in a pandemic.

If Dudler likes his brassed up cameras, I have a lovely OM2 that is so brassy it looks like it had met an angle grinder.. None of my doing, but I suspect it was once abused by the press.
