Polished By Time ..

By GillyB
The Stradun is the main street in the Old Town of Dubrovnik and impossible to find it empty any time of the day or night .. believe me I tried!

You would think we had just had a downpour looking at this but the marble has been polished to a high shine by centuries of feet passing by.

Not too sure about the moon and whether it is distracting but hey ho it was there Smile

Many thanks as always for your time!

( V2 is a black and white conversion)

My first impression was that the street was wet, but how wrong I was: a nicely balanced night time shot, the colour version my favourite of the two. I have held my thumb over the moon but can't decide on whether it might be better to exclude it or leave it in. Will be interested to see what others say, Gill.

Thank you for your comment Ronnie, hopefully there will be some other opinions too ... but it doesn't seem to be very populay so may be not Sad

Lovely light and reflections Gil
For what it's worth, I think the picture is all about the lighting and reflections on the street and the moon does distract a little
but hey what do I know...you're the expert, I'm just a novice that admires your work
It must have been a fairly fast exposure to capture the people in focus

Thank you Gary, I appreciate you taking the time to comment ... it was 1/10sec at ISO 640 and handheld ... obviously hadn't had enough glasses of wine that night Wink

v1 - the colour version - for me. It's almost a montone beige but shows the slightly different coloured reflections which are not in v2. And a definite no to the moon for me - too distracting. Lovely image.

Like both versions very much. The colour is lovely with the bits of orange and red and the moon isn't so intrusive in it as the mono. But think my favorite would be mono without the moon..............Sandy

Lovely evening shot Gill, exposure just right. V1 nicks it for me. The reflections are superb and really add to the overall effect. WinkWink

Great shot !.....amazing that the 'pavement' is 'dry' ?

Love both versions....the 'warm' colours of V1....& the 'impact' of V2, which also eliminates that bright red area in the centre of V1......& once you
spot that, it's difficult to ignore it !!!!!!.....though easy enough to overcome in photoshop !

I do prefer the colour version Gill,it does show all those great reflections off on the wet pavements better for me.

Janet, the pavement was polished marble and dry as a bone Smile ... really good as you get the reflections without getting wet!

Enjoyed these images very much and to buck the trend it's V2 for me, very well composed and captured, and the moon, perfect!
