"Pollok House"

By RonnieAG
Pollok House is the ancestral home of the Maxwell family and lies within Pollok Country Park, Glasgow.
It was built in 1752 although the Library wing which this view focusses on was added later.
The house was gifted by Dame Anne Maxwell Macdonald in 1966 to the City of Glasgow, and it is now managed by the National Trust for Scotland.
The Estate was owned by the family for 700 years.

My thanks to all who commented on My Friendly Neighbourhood Heron and with special thanks to Malcolm {M_squared}, Lynne {LynneJoyce}, Sie {SUE118}, Trev {TrevBatWCC}, Ju {JuBarney} and Alun {Tynnwrllunlau} for their user awards.

Ronnie.

700 years in the family so a brave decision to hand it over, a nice clear shot Ronnie. - gary

Very nice ROnnie, like the framing. IMHO a little more lawn leading into the house may have led the eye to the building, still a great photo

An informative foreword supported by a wonderfully composed image, the tree lined grass avenue making for a beautiful lead into the heart of the image and this glorious example of Scottish architecture.

Spot on with the composition, Ronnie, an excellent lead-in with the front trees forming a frame then funneling you down to the House. The silver bark provides a lovely side show against the greenery as well.

The trees are just as important as the building. That lawn takes right down that avenue to that fine old building.

The silver birch barks harmonise beautifully with the stone of the building.
I heard on news tonight the museum is to be closed for four years for renovation!
I hope they still keep everything open or you'll be lost!
