Excellent large version showing good texture on the petals of the poppies, the vibrant red standing out well in all that greenery, the vignette used concentrating the eye well in the centre of the image, nice one Pete, all thats got to be worth an Ec ,lol.

The future's bright, the poppies are orange.

Although the orange suits the poppies, I can't help feeling there is an overall (slight) orange cast to the whole pic, even the bits that should be just green. Not quite natural looking, but reminiscent of a paintingand very effective.

The poppies do look a tad orange.... and the out of focus buds at the front are a bit distracting, along with the one on the right.

Scissors work a treat in situations like this... :o)

I do like the DOF, though...

I can live with the orange and most of the buds, but the one on the right across the the poppy is a distraction.

This is one pic that could be torn to ribbons without upsetting any of the members! Wink)

On the addition of vignette, there's not enough to make the idea work.
The composition is untidy, but even the main focus of it is disturbed by the OOF seed-head that encroaches on the petal. A slight change of angle would have overcome that.
The colour cast seems un-natural and the main poppy is competing with the secondary one below right that shows stronger colour.
The stalk and head immediately left are almost as sharp as the main stalk and spoil any attempt at isolation.
A 10% crop from the bottom would have removed the severely OOF leaf at the bottom of the main stem. If you felt the balance was then changed, you could remove a similar amount from the top!
Send it to Will C and Dan L and see what they say!!

Definitely an orange tinge to the colouring, poppies should be vibrant, plus the main poppy is too central.

Did you load this just to see what people would say?

Yeah I'm with Ian, send it in to one of the mags under another name, how about Ian Andrews Wink)

Bit of tongue in cheek here I think.
Well isolated though and attractive to boot.

Whilst it's certainly an attractive image, for me it is let down slightly by the orange area immediately above/behind the main flower head, ie the OOF background flowers. Maybe moving your position slightly to the left would have prevented this as there appears to be a flower-free area of greenery in the right-hand background. All the best, Bruce.

Wonderful dof, creating the carpet of red. Compliments the main subject well. A slighter crop on the RHS for me works better.

Nice image to start with - not sure about the colour because I can't seem to get this monitor set up right!
Not managed to get any shots of poppies this year, so couldn't resist fiddling with this one!

Damn being red / green colourblind!

Fantastic shot, love the 'crispness'! Always wondered about putting vignetting in, do you just burn in the corners a bit?

Hi Pete
Really like this shot. I would have liked it more if the red poppy on the right of the shot was taken out so there is only the one red poppy in focus. Like the DOF on all the others.

All getting brave now Ian has put his 4 pennorth in Smile I just love it as a picture and that is how Poppies grow . If you need your Poppies more red as opposed to Orange I compensate by about 2 stops . Nothing really to find disturbing in this one LOL . Love it xx
