Portknockie Gloaming

By hwatt
Portknockie, Moray, Scotland

Well before sunrise on a fine Summer's morning I found myself gazing out to see where the aptly named bird **** rock lies. The cliff tops were densely fringed with all manner of summer flowers like Birdsfoot Trefoil and thrift lining up no doubt on the edge of their metaphorical seats for the show to unfold in the amphitheatre below. The inky blue sea has glazed over and the clouds smeared with the necessary long exposure time, but for a short while the cool blues of twilight were split by a sliver of crimson and orange, the first embers of dawn.
