Portland Bill "Painting"

By conrad
I love lighthouses. And I was wondering what this one would look like in a painting. Well, somewhat like this, I imagine! I need a nicer frame, but for the moment this one will do, I think.

I'll upload the original photo as a version.

Thanks for looking!

I prefer the more natural v2, the frame in v1 is too dominant for my liking

Yeah, it's not ideal, is it, but the whole idea was more about the treatment of the image inside the frame...

The painterly effect works well and would work well with a more subtle unobtrusive frame

Thanks, everyone.

Okay, I see a consensus here: the image itself works, the frame doesn't. Not surprising, really.

I have to say, the frame is a disaster; unequal sides. The lighthouse I like.

Like the painting on the sky and light house but not sure the brush size was right with the foreground as it seem to dominate.
A good image to start with in terms of light and details

Thanks for the comments, both!

Yes, Richard, I myself wasn't sure about the brush size either. I'm experimenting with painterly ideas and have by no means determined the ideal way to do it yet. I thought this image lent itself quite well to the treatment, but the treatment itself has to be perfected. Not to mention the frame...
