portrait or my Samoyed

By aeras
Shot on the porch with a Nikon F4s and 35-70 f:2.8 . the dog was watching my son eating his sandwich Smile
Suggestions about cropping ,exposure , focusing. I think the out of focus nose lets the picture down..but I am not sure.
Also the whiskers on the RHS should not be cutted out ?

Thank you

The nose doesn't bother me too much, but would be nicer if sharp! But the crop is too much I think and as you say his whiskers are chopped off. Me being me, I'd also use Lightroom to increase the luminance of the red in his tongue a touch to lighten and brighten it and show the light coming through the edges. Don't laugh, it can add a bite to the image!Smile

Its a really nice, well exposed shot. Whether the nose is a spoiler really depends on whether this is you dog, a family pet, or a shot you took for a client. if its yours, its great. A client might be picky. But I see a good capture of the personality of the dof, with the eyes sharp and detailed.

I have suggested, in the mod, a crop to shorten the image; I would get a little more tongue detail from the shadow using the shadow tool in CS, and sharpen slightly. I noticed, when doing the mod, that the white could benefit if it was a little more white, which Ive also addressed.

Good film work and scanning.

Brian I think you are right , the tongue looks a bit dull, will give your idea a try , thax Smile

Wille the mod looks good regarding the crop , the picture looks more balanced to me , thanx for the tip Smile
I must admit that I am not in favor of PS alterations , other than cropping but I will give it a try if the result is not too much away from the original photo.

putting your ideas into practice I cropped tighter , increased the luminosity , and added some color to the tongue (Uploaded a mod).
I think I like it better. Thanx both of you for the tips and the mods Smile
