Post Coital position

By ringyneck
Great Crested Grebes keep their distance, especially when they spy an Olympus after them.Except that is when "other things" are on their minds.
I had a walk around a local lake yesterday and almost at the end I saw a Grebe bow down with bill pointed along the water (picture 2).
Poblem was I had to take up a position shooting through Holly and a Hawthorn bushes, but I suppose they did not see me there.
At first I thought the grebe was hunting a fish but She was in fact offering herself to the male. The main shot was after their "act" and a display of head shaking.
I have kept "The Act" shot for another day.
Earlier this year I posted Grebes displaying but these are better quality as the light at this time of year is better. Short of getting really close I think the Olympus with kit lens is at the limit on this.
This seems late in the year for mating so it must just be pair bonding...or fun!
Please see LARGE + F 11.

Shot on sport mode,hand held @ f5, 1/640, iso 100 and 150mm focal length.

All this and the promise of avian porn still to come!? Love both of these, it's horribly anthropomorphic but they demand captions....

Thanks everyone....
"anthropomorphic"..... Moira, I have just put the Oxford paperback down and can say there is no need for any of that in the shot I took after the above one....she was left on the spot while he buggered off !!!!
cheers,

In one it looks like he is saying don't look now but I think he's going to take our photo, and in 2 he's saying duck down and he might not notice us.

Jokes aside two great images. - gary

Two wonderful nature shots, they only have eyes for each other and are totally oblivious to your camera
