Praying Mantis on Sedum

By handlerstudio
This afternoon, while waiting for our guests to come over for an early "Erev Yom Kippur" dinner, I went out to the backyard with my OM-D with my old Olympus Zuiko 50mm f3.5 macro lens, which functions as a manual focus aperture priority automatic on my camera (actually pre-set aperture priority automatic) with an adapter. My intention was to photograph bees on the sedum (hard to get them to stay in one spot for very long), but what I found was even better, though my cat Rocky (a small, as they go, Maine Coon mix) kept nudging me for attention, so I include a shot of him, too. I did get one decent shot of a bee, but the Mantis stole the show. It was quite amazing how wherever I moved with the camera, she turned to look at me, no sense of distress, she stayed still and watched me. And, she was brown rather than the usual green.

I would add, that the mantis had a most remarkable air or feel of intelligence in that little head of hers.

Regarding the Weaver's call - not the same as this one !! This is a loud, noisy and can be irritating sound they makeSmile I agree that the Mantis seems to know what is going on around her Smile

The mantis is amazing. No wonder you were distracted from taking photos of bees Smile
