Back again with a frog. The from was on the ground in a pitch black night. while taking the shot i was even unable to see it on the LCD. Seems a bit over focused.. do u too think so??

i am not sure what you have tried to know from the critique, over focused? this a grab shot, you may have tried to test your camera quality in the dark, the subject is blurred, out of focus and positioned at the center, really i can not help you in this regard and i am also confused with your question...

It's "out of focus" if that's what you mean....

taking shots in the dark is always tricky with compact cameras and DSLR's alike

Looks like the camera may have focussed on the foreground grass as that seems a bit sharper

Its hard to tell if this is a frog or a toad because of the focus. OK nighttime photography for Amphibians, The reason for lack of focus is that you couldn't see it on the LCD and also the camera would struggle too to pick out the frog/toad so you need additional light. You don't need anything fancy a cheap and cheerful torch would do (the best ones are those bulky ones with the large handles) that just on the ground lighting the subject will do but it will work better if a trees nearby and you can wedge it to shine down on your chosen subject. With this extra light you can now see the frog/toad in the veiwfinder and should be able to better focus. It takes a while at first but you do get used to this, that said a normal torch that fits in your pocket should help with your next "encounter".I hope it helps you for future attempts Smile
