Hope this does well Ann - there's plenty detail and the head and beak area is superb
with lovely black tones. Let us know how you get on.

Very fine close-up of the gannet, the detail so good and the water droplets a bonus.

I agree with you Ann - the b&w should do well in the comp as it's so well composed and converted, but the colour is my favourite.

Two stunning versions but P1 pips it for me as this is such a beautifully coloured bird.

They always seem to look stern like some like some Sheriff from the busy courts who have seen it all and heard every feeble excuse under the sun.

Lovely image, never looked closely at a gannet before, I like the way you have captured the texture of the feathers, the water droplets and the colours are not natural and right. Grin

Not sure I understand what you mean by "the water droplets and the colours are not natural and right" The bird had just emerged from a dive into the sea for food, hence the water droplets. The colours as shown in the image are I feel, pretty much as I observed them. Ann.

Here we can see both versions, and so have a choice, and I am in agreement with most others, in that the colour looks better. However, if you are going to enter the mono into a competition, the judges won't be seeing the original colour version, and will be judging the mono only on its merits. It was hard, but I tried to ignore the colour version, and think the mono looks good, especially with the black outlines on the beak, and the detail on the plumage which you have maintained.

Such beautiful feather detail and love the tiny water droplets on the plumage, the whites perfectly exposed. I do prefer the colour version, it's stunning!
