Barack Obama's personal plea backing Chicago's 2016 Olympic bid backfired when the city was eliminated in the first round of voting.
The snub was seen as a slap in the face for the President who hoped his last-minute decision to fly to Denmark, where the vote was being held, would close the deal.
Organisers last night announced Rio de Janeiro as the winning city.
