Pretty in pink

By mrswoolybill
As you may have noticed, I don't often do pretty, and I don't often do pink. But I found this view on the Rochdale Canal, between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, too good to resist.
I like the breadth of the main upload, the portrait crop version was a last-minute idea but it's growing on me.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

What a perfectly balanced picture, with the canal flowing through the image, and the pink blossom acting as a stopper on the right. I think I prefer the lead image, Moira.

Straightforward unpretentious classic landscape photography with front-to-back sharpness ( well, as near as makes no difference ).
'Picture postcard' but a rather good one, and Alfred is gobsmacked to see you so far outside your comfort zone.

The version is a classic composition. The lead is more relaxed and includes the viewer in the the scene.

I take lots of canal shots and I’d be more than happy to get a scene like this. The lead works best, classic composition on the thirds with crisp colour and detail. Go on then, have a gong.

I find the landscape format more relaxing, whereas the portrait is more dynamic.

Only nipped on for a minute and spotted this, so I had to take a closer look.
Beautiful with the pink blossom! I like the lead for the long coloured reflections but the version is more about the blossom.
Love them both, have another UA!

Love the lead, Moira, an award-worthy pretty pic! Please do more ‘pretty’, they're very good for the soul 🪷👌

It may be pretty, even chocolate box, but it's still a lovely, tranquil scene. I prefer the overall balance of the lead, with the elements combining into more than the sum of their parts, whereas the vertical crops, while more dynamic, shifts the emphasis onto the blossom and towpath. Both are a joy to see.

Thanks for some useful comments, which have crystalised how I see this. The version will get its own upload some time.
Thanks everyone and special thanks to Ian, Jeff, Alan, Dave, Diane and Dave 2 for their UAs.

Like the Pretty lead best. I know what you mean about pretty. It can be a bit boring but sometimes it's good. This is good.

I do really like the lead, but the version does concentrate the eye more on the boat and the pink 😃👍🏻

lovely canal landscape, Moira. I like both but prefer the lead with the reflections in the water, pink and all the shades of green; the footpath is a bit too dominant in the vertical crop.

I have to admit that I didn't think it was one of yours at first glance, Moira, but pretty is good, and this is a delightful scene.

The landscape lead just has such a lovely balance and rests so easy on the eye. How fortuitous that the narrowboat has matching paintwork!
