Preying Mantice

By Paul_cats
No help with the ID required on this one. Its a preying mantice. Never realised how difficult it is to get a good shot of one of these. They normally hide under leaves and the bg is usually awful. Was luck enough to catch this one on the edge of a leaf with the sunlight shining through it. Now my partner says that my choice of border spoils the shot but IMHO it does not. She says it needs no border at all but I disagree. Please tell me what you think and thanks for looking. Comments good or bad all welcome. Shot is hand held 1/200 f10 ISO200

I think this is a superb shot once again and although I am a "border person" I think this would still be terrific without. However, I have uploaded a MOD with a red stroke and white border as an alternative.

This is absolutely gorgeous! The background is perfect, as is the insect. I shall sit on the wall regarding the frame.........it doesn't really need it, but it is subtle. Smile

'Tis a lovely shot - think it would have been just as good without the frame lines, but they don't detract from the image as they are very subtle!

Brilliant! I think the border would look nice if the same colour was around the edge of the pic aswell or nothing. Sorry.

Not keen on the framing as I think it detracts from what is otherwise a nicely detailed image which is well composed.

What a Cracking Image...!

I like the way the strong lighting has made the insect almost translucent showing "bone" structure within the arms. A bonny shot.

As for the border, since you asked, I'd say no. Mainly because it obstructs my view of the twig, is too near the front arm and the background is superb.

Beautiful creature. Well caught!

(To have these wild in the garden as well as dragonflies is just sooo unfair!) Smile

Re: border... Must confess, I'm not a fan of tan... or of the inside the border blur, but a dark green or a single black on the edge would help 'zing'out the subject?
