Princess Gardens

By TrevBatWCC
After being nourished by the fish & chips, headed to the other side of Torquay's marina to the lovely Princess Gardens, which has a beautiful ornate fountain (V1 & V2) at its centre.
Alongside the gardens is the Pavilion, best seen here in the lead image. This splendid building opened on 17th August 1912, having lounges and a cafe. It became a Grade II listed building in 1973, which saved it from being demolished. After some restoration, it opened as a shopping arcade in 1987, which I visited when I was previously in Torquay in 2001, but on this trip to Torquay, I was disappointed to find it all boarded up. It closed in 2013 when traders moved out to make way for potential redevelopment. The cast-iron framework is said to be badly corroded and in need of at least 3million just to make it safe. I do hope it can be saved 🙁
Looking in the opposite direction is the English Riviera Wheel (V3), erected in May this year, and stands at 60 metres in height, and has 40 gondolas.

Many thanks to Colleen, Harry (harrywatson), Peter (Mollycat) and Isabel (Chinga) for their User Awards on my previous upload, Happy Yorkshire Day! , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 👍

Gosh! It seems criminal to let such a building decay! I would have thought it would be protected by some legal classification.

places like this should be receiving sufficient funding and be given priority project status... sadly, similar situations can be observed in other countries and jurisdictions

It is a crime to demolish a building of this beauty just to replace it with some modern atrocity.

Remarkable and sad narrative, Trev. A great set, possibly a princess in the lead image? 👍 great processing as always,

Still looks absolutely stunning - so many buildings which need saving and far more beautiful than new builds.
I do like all versions however however version 3 is my Fav and it the wheel that attracts the eye and the beautiful sky
