Professor Jimmy Edwards...

By Scottishlandscapes
...I wandered around the tiny island and found some of the millions of shells that have made the sand over the millennia and some weed snagged as the tide receded. I have a few of these I'll post from time to time.

***Jimmy Edwards was an Australian comic from B&W TV days who sported a bushy moustache***

Whacko! I was hunting for this sort of drifting effect on a beach the other day, came back with twenty images, binned the lot. The sour green is what makes this work.

When I went to grammar school in 1961 I was relieved to find the Whacko! attitude largely absent from the teaching staff. Mind you, a few of them did wear expansive moustaches; none of them green, fortunately!
Fun!

Plenty of whacko at my grammar school, it was staffed almost entirely by psychopaths and failed Gestapo applicants. Fortunately we had quite a few Billy Bunters and they usually took most of the heat.

I recall one teacher we had Dougie with a bushy moustache.
It was all nicotine stained with the fags he smoked !!

I like this as an abstract, but the moustache reference is a good one!

I must go down on our beach and look for funny things on the sand. I like this a lot.

Your analogy reminds me of this wonderful comic actor who often had me in stitches: there's no one like him now.
And well spotted photo opportunity.

The wee things that make a white beach come to life. Wonderful detail.

PS. Still stripping and painting walls, scraping floors and cleaning houses. But there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Still small, but it comes nearer. Uh... I'm fed up by now, but hey, that's life. And... both houses are getting ever more beautiful with each day that passes. Worth all the work.

Jimmy Edwards periodically features in Radio 4 Extra repeats, and his humour has not worn badly. I recently discovered that the moustache was the result of injuries received during the war.

A man of more parts than were normally appreciated: my memories of a quiz programme he devised are happy... After racking my brain and (unsuccessfully) trying Wikipedia, the name comes back to me - "Does the Team Think?"

Well seen Dougie. Great title. I remember being the programme well and getting a bit of 'whacko' at my school.
